1107. technology advancements

Rant of the day: I am so looking forward to Friday... Haha...
After conducting numerous workshops for the public, it sometimes saddens me when you literally see the fear in people when technology advances at the speed of light. Coming to my third year conducting workshops, I'd seen aunties and uncles trying so hard to understand how to use the mouse, where to click to minimise the screen or even where is start button.

I'm listening to complains almost every lessons that some attendees are IT illiterate. I really sympathise with them but honestly, I can only help this much. While we put the blame on them that they are not making enough efforts to adapt, think it this way... one day, we will be in their shoes really.

Now that my mum got herself a laptop, I'm feeling even more of these. Literally everyday, my mum will come up with questions and questions for things like how to copy the images from the digital camera to her thumb drive, where to view photos that were copied out and even how to use MSN!

Sooner or later, she will want me to teach her how to create PowerPoint presentation slides... But first, still on the basics of transferring files to and fro an external device.

But at least, my mum is not that bad. She knows what is Youtube.com and Tudou.com! And even more amazing, she managed to locate where to watch those Taiwan variety shows in Tudou.com!!! Steady pom pi pi ok... Haha...

At the speed of all these technology advancements, we (as in our generation) might find it hard to catch up one day. Probably talking directly to the PC to get words being typed out automatically? Snapping the fingers to change the TV channels? Or just by mere thoughts to navigate the mobile phones?!?!? Scary... I hope I will not find myself not knowing how to switch on my TV in the future.

So while we can start to worry for ourselves, perhaps I shall continue to teach my mum on how to use her laptop (or at least how to surf the Net). Facebook for her? Maybe...

1106. trying things out

Rant of the day: Have the feel of visiting Zirca... It's been ages...
I am going to try out something that's totally alien to me and is extremely high risk... securities trading or to most known as "buy shares"! Not sure if I should be doing it but looking at the prospects of the fund that dear is recommending and also, too get more returns in order to fund my future, I should do it but probably at a much smaller scale.

It's a risk but take it slow and steady. Pray that the returns will jump in folds come the near future.

Back on office stuff, workload is still hell lots... Is like never-ending flow of emails!!! But besides that, still have to conduct classes and that takes up at least half a day! Gawd, please slow things down a lil will ya? It's getting on my nerves everyday looking at the number of emails piling and hitting the edges of the service level deadline. FML!!!

I'm like staying back after my office hours longer and longer each day. Though I'm telling myself "please go home now" but I can't just leave for I know doing that will result in undesirable consequences, i.e. answer to my boss.

My leave indicated for early November is also not approved yet even though we are coming very much soon to the end of October and my boss is on leave next week. Luckily, dear and I did not plan for the Phuket trip else, WE ARE SO SCREWED!!!

*phew*

On the bright side, even if the leave is not approved, it means I will have more days in December off from work because these are my last year leave and by hook or by crook, it must be cleared by this year. Hahaha...

Nevertheless, 2010 is coming to an end... SOON!!!

1105. coming back

Rant of the day: Work work work...
Dear and I make it a point that we visit Bintan once every year, regardless whether to use office subsidized bungalow or to book a room ourselves. We need to slow down the pace and in Bintan, we can find that kinda peace, quiet and space.

And not forgetting the aromatherapy massages. Total relaxation.

But of course, spending in Bintan ain't cheap. A simple meal and easily chalk to S$40 for two! And if you are intending to do some sea sports, get ready more cash as well. But for dear and I, is mainly to chill by the pool and get some tan... Hang out by the beach and pick sea shells... Sit by the balcony at night and savour some light alcohol.

Ahhhhh... That's life!!!

Admiring the view from my room... If only I have sea view everyday now in Singapore. Hahaha...

Hanging out by the beach. Picking sea shells...

Breakfast buffet is ridiculously good! Eat till you drop!

We probably be going to Phuket next year but this plan is besides the annual Bintan visit. Haha... Which resort is good and affordable at Phuket? Any experienced visitors? Share your experience...

But on the day of coming back Singapore was miserable. Don't wanna be back. At least not so soon. We were there at Bintan for only 3D2N... Even though there's nothing much to do, we can pretty well not do anything very proficiently... Haha...

Rant of the day: Ran rain go away. You're making me sleepy all day...

1103. before october comes

Rant of the day: I need to swim more!!! I so fat lah!!!
I know I haven't been maintaining my blog promptly this year. Think I'm getting lazy bah... Yes, I'm feeling but what's new? Haha. Perhaps let the pictures do the talking...

Hari Raya dinner gathering at Sheila's place. Gawd! She bake fantastic cookies lah!!!

Congrats to Louis and Su Lin! Wish you a blissful marriage forever and ever.

Feeling tired everyday at work. I need coffee like almost everyday!!!

Dear still loves Pizza Hut. I only love their drumlets. Haha... Photo collage created using iPhone app.

Finally found a place for my RMIT badge. It now sits nicely on my lanyard.

Went F1 watching from one of the best view and it's FREE! Haha.

Upcoming in October includes:
  • MORE physiotherapy (which I didn't quite enjoy because sometimes it does get pretty painful).
  • Bintan again! I need the sun, sand and the sea. Not forgetting the massage!
  • Mother's birthday coming up. And lil brother's too. Shit... What to buy???
  • Halloween!!! Where to this year? Club?
It's Friday in a while (TGIF) and the first day of October. Hope October will be a good month... *pray*

1102. f1 singapore

Rant of the day: What a lazy Sunday... lolx...
I'm there I'm there! But not with tickets. Definitely can't afford the tickets and I wouldn't spend thousands just to watch cars fly by. Dear actually took her dad and I up to her office meeting room to watch! Bird-eye view of the event minus the extremely loud and unbearable zoooooooooooom sound.

So we actually got one of the best view of the race for free. Hahaha... But honestly, the excitement didn't last for more than 30min. After a while, it was pretty boring unless some action on the over-taking...

Rant of the day: Lovin' the "gao sai" from Thailand!!!

1100. time flies

Rant of the day: I wanna pack my bedroom too... lolx...
Time flies isn't it? 2 weeks ago, I'm busy booking in for my annual ICT and now, I'm out and ready to kick my ass back to office. There is only 1 word to describe my feeling now...

.
.
.
.
.

SIAN!!!

.
.
.
.
.

Seriously, it is the best word I can find to describe. Short, simple and sweet. And most importantly, straight to the point.

So now, time to pack up and get ready to sleep. It's gonna be a good week (I hope).

1099. heart breaking

Rant of the day: And I didn't get much rest as what I had planned... FML!!!
Truly shaken and definitely heart broken. Deric was at his usual self, running around the house from kitchen to living room to bedroom. But I guess he forgot how huge he had grown and dashed right underneath my bed. Heard a loud thud but initially thought that he had clumsily knocked into some cupboard or bed frame. But after a while, we saw chunks of fur flying around the house and it does not appears to be the daily fur dropping. After some quick inspection, we saw a cut and poor Deric was bleeding...

After purchasing some antiseptic water and cotton, mum did a quick clean up and we examined the wound. It seemed way too serious to heal by itself and we rushed him to the vet.

They did a pretty nice job stitching it up but Deric had gotten a large portion of fur shaved for the minor operation.

Aiyoh my clumsy boy. Heart pain leh... Now we need to restrict his daily movement to prevent tearing of the stitches since he is so hyper active. He is back in his old caged up area in the kitchen. Sad... And we need to start finding solution to block his access to the bed frame underneath.

Anyway, dear bought me a new IT gadget and I'm lovin' it. It's a Sony MP3 player designed for jogging!!! Though she refuse to say how much but I know it ain't cheap.

Loves~~~

And say goodbye to the loyal Nokia 6100. It has officially declared its retirement from service.

Now I need to buy a new non camera phone for my reservist. Looking at the Sony Ericsson G700 but it's NOT CHEAP lor!!!

It's back to work on Monday.

*sigh*

1098. catch up时间

Rant of the day: Tired and extremely sleepy...

认识了一个新的队友,Koh Bin(华语因该是“徐斌”),而且他是Manhunt finalist!

Till then……

Rant of the day: Expo seriously need a good and high multi-storey carpark!!!

Rant of the day: 虽然用意是好的,但我无法完全的苟同。
好一句“算了”。

那我也就“算了”……因为真的,关我的屁事!反正说了也只不过换来一句“算了”。那就“算了”吧。我ok的。

1095. worn out

Rant of the day: 1 more working day...
I'm mentally tired. Worn out in fact. Work now is soooooooo "taxing" (working in the right board is like this). Last year's nightmare is back for me to clear. With so much work on hand that I can't complete, the reservist starting from coming Monday for 2 weeks ain't helping. I can't imagine the amount of leftovers when I'm back in office.

Can't get a deferment from reservist as my injury ain't that serious to warrant that. But at least I managed to get excuse from all activities that requires physical training involving my legs! Not bad. And I don't need to put on boots too since wearing them will hinder my recovery. Hopefully my injured ankle survives the 2 weeks in camp. Hahaha... I'll be grateful if the condition does not worsen.

Dear's birthday approaching. What should I do/get this year? I cooked for her last year and I don't think I should do the cooking... You get what I mean...

Anyway, haven't been taking photos of Deric. Here's one... "Gimme food and I'll give you peace..."

So cute lah he...

1094. baby dawn

Rant of the day: So sad... It's gonna be Monday soon. =(
These are the rare few moments where I carry an infant!!! I'm always fearful of carrying infants 'cause I'm scared of dropping them on the floor. I'm quite a butter-finger ya know... =P

Say cheese!!! Awwwwww... Baby Dawn was sleeping. Think my "king koil" arms are way too comfortable. *yawn*

Congrats to Huey Weng and Chien Yong! Your baby Dawn is soooooo cute!!!

Anyway, the first month celebration was like Childrens' Day. Almost everyone brought their kids along. So I think only Rex, Fang Ying and I don't have any. We still young ok!!!

I still kor kor!!! Hahahaha...

1093. i'm back

Rant of the day: The medical centre in my camp damn fark up... Seriously...
I've been back in Singapore for a few days already after the Hong Kong trip but had been procrastinating on blogging the stuff. Quite a number of photos taken and pretty lazy to put them up on this post. If you have my Facebook account, do get it there instead.

Probably put up my favourite photo from the trip. It's my first time to a Disneyland!!! Lovin' the back drop.

Just a few things from this trip:

1. Wrong timing. It's the China and Hong Kong summer vacation. So there are lots and lots of visitors to many of the places we are visiting. And not that I'm being racist or what... I have nothing against the mainland peeps but they are seriously rowdy and rude. Bad bad experiences with them when we were at Disneyland.

2. Since it's summer vacation period, meaning, it's summer time! Blardy hot, humid and the sun was scorching!!! The moment we stepped out of the hotel, I'll start to sweat!!! Dear and I were almost cooked to perfection. I prefer medium rare leh...

3. Hong Kong has got pretty bad air quality. Fog... Fog... And more fog... It's like the foggy period in Singapore when Indonesia is burning up! But the thing is, in Hong Kong, it's on a daily basis (at least for the past 4 days when we were there). Luckily dear and I ain't asthmatic.

4. It's a pretty expensive place to go. By day 2, we had exhausted and even over-spent our planned expenses for the 1st and 2nd day!!! And we didn't even visit any high class restaurants lor!!!

5. Their buildings in Hong Kong are seriously old. I felt like I'm visiting Singapore in the 60s. Gawd...

6. Their dim sum is good. And there's this particular dim sum house (一点心) that serves extremely good dim sum at affordable prices! Must try their har gao (虾饺). Damn nice lah!!! Go google it if you wanna find out more about this place.

7. Hit up Granville Road if you are looking for slightly more affordable (as compared to their shopping malls) trendy clothes and accessories.

8. We found Food Republic food court at the Citygate Mall!!! The same food court we have at Vivocity. But their food is more localised. Like what we learnt in class, glocalisation...

9. Their Wife Biscuit (老婆饼) is heavenly!!! Get those from Wing Hwa!!! They have an outlet in Hong Kong International Airport. So it's easy for you when departing the airport for home. Grab and go.

Will I go back to Hong Kong? Hmmmmmmm... Lemme think about it. I didn't enjoy as much as I was when I went Taiwan. Thinking of somewhere not so expensive for my next trip. I still haven't got the chance to visit Myanmar and Vietnam but I got a strong feeling that dear wouldn't wanna go to these places. What about a long Star Cruise trip? I haven't board the large vessel too!

Anyway, a cool Indian rendition of the Shakira's Waka Waka.

Though I don't understand anything but honestly, not bad... Anyone got the song?
